Traditional Worship - The I AM Statements of Jesus: The Connected Life

What if the exhaustion so many of us feel is not a sign that we need to try harder, but a sign that we have been disconnected from the very source of life? In John 15, Jesus offers one of his most intimate and organic images of what it means to follow him. He declares himself the true vine and calls us the branches, and in doing so, he reframes the entire Christian life. Our one job is not to produce, perform, or prove ourselves. Our one job is to stay connected. This message draws a remarkable thread between John 15 and Psalm 80, where Israel is pictured as a vine planted and tended by God, a vine that could not restore itself when its walls were broken down. Centuries later, Jesus steps into that same imagery and says, I am what Israel could never fully be on its own. The life God always intended for his people is now found in him. For us, this means that love, patience, kindness, and every other fruit Paul describes in Galatians 5 are not achievements we unlock through discipline. They are what naturally grows when we remain connected to Christ. The practices of prayer, scripture, worship, and community are not spiritual report cards. They are the pathways through which the life of the vine flows into us and eventually becomes visible fruit for others.
